Bicycle Rear Cassettes for Shimano, SRAM, and Microspline Freehubs

Cassette choice changes everything about how your bike climbs and rolls. A 10-52 wide-range Eagle cluster turns brutal climbs into spinnable ones, while a tight 11-30 road cassette keeps cadence smooth on flats. Rogue Powersports stocks cassettes for every modern freehub body and speed standard, plus the lockrings to install them.

Cassettes by Drivetrain Standard

  • Shimano HG 11-Speed: Shimano XT M8000, SLX, and 105 cassettes in 11-42, 11-46, and 11-34 ratios fit standard HG freehubs and cover MTB, gravel, and road builds.
  • Shimano Microspline 12-Speed: XTR M9100, XT M8100, and Deore M6100 cassettes in 10-51 use Microspline freehubs for tight low-speed jumps and a real granny gear.
  • SRAM XD & XDR 1x: SRAM XX1, X01, and GX Eagle 10-50 and 10-52 cassettes mount on XD freehubs for the widest 1x range available. XDR fits AXS road builds.
  • Road & Gravel Cassettes: Shimano Ultegra, Dura-Ace, and SRAM Force cassettes in 11-28, 11-30, and 10-36 cover everything from crit racing to gravel epics.
  • E-Bike LinkGlide & Reinforced: Shimano LinkGlide cassettes use stronger steel cogs to outlast Hyperglide under repeated motor torque. Ideal for high-mileage e-MTB and e-commuter builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bike cassette last?

Typically 2-3 chains' worth of miles — usually 5,000-10,000 miles. Replace when teeth show wear, chain skips on shifts, or when you replace a stretched chain past 0.75%.

11-speed vs. 12-speed cassettes?

12-speed offers wider gear range with smaller jumps between gears. SRAM Eagle and Shimano XTR/Ultegra/Dura-Ace use 12-speed. 11-speed is still plenty good for most riders. Not interchangeable — different chains and freehubs.

Do I need a cassette tool?

Yes — cassettes lock onto the freehub with a lockring requiring a brand-specific tool. Park Tool BBT-79 (Shimano/SRAM) is standard. Easy to use; you also need a chain whip to hold the cassette while loosening.

Lightweight vs. durable cassette?

Aluminum cogs (Shimano XT/Ultegra): lightweight but wear faster. Steel cogs (Shimano XT, full-steel cassettes): heavier but last longer. Mid-range cassettes (mostly steel with aluminum spider) are the sweet spot.

Wide-range vs. tight-range cassettes?

Wide-range (10-50t, 11-50t): bigger jumps but more terrain coverage — best for MTB. Tight-range (11-28t, 11-32t): smaller gear jumps, smoother shifting — best for road racing on flat to moderate terrain.
