Motorcycle USB Chargers, Power Adapters & Outlets
A motorcycle USB charger or 12V power outlet keeps the phone, GPS, heated gear, and helmet communicator alive on long rides. The right adapter pulls clean power from the battery, fuses inline against shorts, and survives rain and vibration where consumer chargers fail. Rogue Powersports stocks weatherproof USB and 12V outlets, dual-port chargers, and powerlet adapters.
Charger Types & Wiring
- Handlebar USB Chargers: Handlebar-mount USB chargers from Ciro, Kuryakyn, and Tecmate clamp onto the bars and run a fused lead to the battery. The cleanest cockpit install.
- 12V & SAE Powerlet Outlets: 12V cigarette-style and BMW-style powerlet outlets accept heated gear plugs, GPS pucks, and battery tenders. Standard on most BMW and KTM adventure bikes.
- Dual-Port USB Adapters: Dual USB-A or USB-A + USB-C adapters charge a phone and a communicator at once. Look for at least 3.0A combined output.
- Battery Tender Pigtails: SAE battery tender pigtails wire under the seat once and accept a Battery Tender plug all winter. Adapter cables convert SAE to USB or 12V.
- Voltage Monitors: Inline voltage monitors warn you when the battery drops below 12.0V on long rides with high accessory loads.

Frequently Asked Questions
What power adapters do motorcycles use?
12V cigarette-lighter outlets, USB-A and USB-C ports, SAE pigtails (for heated gear). Most modern bikes have at least one factory 12V outlet. Add USB chargers via switched power for phones, GPS, and comms.
How do I add a USB charger to my motorcycle?
Hardwire a USB charger (Battery Tender, OPTI-PORT) to the battery via SAE pigtail or directly. Run to a tank-bag location or handlebar mount. Most installs take 30-60 minutes.
Switched vs. unswitched power for motorcycle accessories?
Switched power (key-on only) prevents accessories from draining the battery. Unswitched is for tenders and always-on accessories. For chargers and audio, use switched power.
Are USB chargers waterproof?
Marine-rated USB chargers are. Look for IP65 or IP67 ratings. Cover unused ports with the included silicone caps to prevent corrosion. Replace chargers showing greenish corrosion immediately.
Can I run multiple accessories from one motorcycle?
Add up the accessories' wattage. Most bikes can power 50-150W of accessories simultaneously. Add a fused power distribution block (Centech AP-1, Eastern Beaver PC-8) for clean wiring with multiple devices.
